Tablesaw Scarf Jig

for boatbuilding, musical instruments, etc.

A simple jig...

The Simple jig

Greetings,

I needed a scarf jig to build some 14 foot chines and clamps. I looked around on the internet and found this design on a You tube video. I built the jig and gave it a try. The jig worked perfectly.

Jig

The setup is simple. I cut a 1" X 8" pine board about 24 inches in length. I then cut a 2" X 2" stud about 20 inches in length. This 2 X 2 will be used as an adjustable fence to set the angle of cut. Underneath the end with an arrow pointing to it, a screw is used to secure the 2 X 2 and act as a pivot point to adjust the angle. A screw at the opposit end locks the fence in place.

This rail was cut to fit the track on the tablesaw. I used brads and glue to secure the rail to the 1 X 8.

A closer look at the end of the jig used to set and secure the angle of cut.

Pre-cut      Post-cut

Using the jig is simple enough. I clamp the two ends I want to join to the jig fence, then I cut them both at the same time.

Done

Four clamps and two chines were cut, glued and clamped in about 20 minutes. This jig saves a lot of time.
